EXAMINATIONS & VACCINATIONS

Why are Examinations important?
Just like human physical exams getting your pet's annual examination is as equally important. Examinations can help detect and prevent diseases early on, allowing for a much quicker and successful therapy. Exams allow veterinarians to find growths, lumps or skin irritation which the pet owner may have not noticed. Also annual or bi-annual exams help keep an updated medical record by recording their weights, checking for dental disease, along with their other vital organs such as their ears, eyes and joints
What about vaccinations, why does my pet need them?
Annual vaccines help prevent many illnesses that may affect your pets. Vaccines work by helping your pets immune system prepare for the disease through antigens. When the antigens enters the body, the immune system becomes slightly stimulated allowing your pet to be prepared if your pet is ever exposed to the real disease.
For new pets, we offer a puppy package and kitten package that include all initial required vaccines.

Leptospirosis

Lyme
A disease carried by ticks which infects both man and dogs in some regions of the US. The disease can damage many of the dog’s body systems, but most often causes fever, loss of appetite and lameness.
FVRCP
A combination vaccine to protect against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calcivirus, and Panleukopenia. Rhinotracheitis is a common respiratory infection, which is often fatal in kittens. Sneezing, decreased appetite and fever followed by a thick discharge from the eyes and nose are often observed. Calcivirus is a respiratory infection that is not usually fatal, but often leaves cats more susceptible to serious infections. Panleukopenia is a widespread and highly contagious disease of cats that results in loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Some adult cats may recover, but it is often fatal in both kittens and adults.

Leukemia
Infection with this virus is a major cause of serious disease and death in cats. It decreases the ability of the immune system to respond to infection and may cause leukemia. It is passed from cat to cat by direct contact. Outside cats and cats in multi-cat homes are at high risk. It is not contagious to people.

Rabies
A fatal viral infection of the central nervous system that can affect all mammals, including man. The virus is transmitted from animal to animal primarily through the bite of an infected animal. Routine vaccination is the key to controlling this dreaded disease.
